Make the most of our glorious gardens and meadows in the summer months with a lavishly styled picnic laid on by our team of experts. Vintage furniture, straw bales, cushions, rugs and throws create a stunning backdrop for your family and friends to enjoy and to create Insta-worthy photos. Hampers spilling over with salads, sandwiches, pies and pastries will delight guests young and old. When the sun sets on Sunday evening and there is no way you are going to let the fun end, why not celebrate with our cocktails & canapes experience around the firepit. Our master mixologist will create your favourite drinks while our team serve your guests with pre-dinner nibbles or opt for a post-dinner treat with aperitifs and indulgent chocolate and marshmallow s’mores to toast in the flames. Under the expert guidance of one of our master chefs, you can learn the art of the chocolatier or how to create the perfect patisserie. Or if entertaining on a larger scale is more your thing, then take our dinner party class and enjoy the fruits of your labours once you have finished preparing them. Walking at Hales Hall

Country walks

One of the greatest joys of staying at Hales is the ability to walk out of any gate and immerse yourself in the glorious Norfolk countryside. Surrounded, as we are by acres and acres of meadowland and arable fields, you can head out to enjoy some wonderful fresh air and breath-taking landscapes. The easiest circuit is a 15-minute perimeter of our grounds or for a little more effort a 40-minute lap of Hales Common carpeted in buttercups is a must. For the more adventurous still there are multiple circular walks we can introduce you to along a network of picturesque footpaths.

Experience the thrill of firing a gun and hitting clay after clay in our beautiful grounds in the safe hands of the team from the Philip Thorrold Shooting Academy. These champion marksmen and women will provide all the guidance and equipment you need, including mobile clay traps on remote control, clay targets from multiple angles and speeds, safety goggles and ear defenders. Learn a new skill or brush up on an existing one while building team spirit and a competitive edge! All ages and abilities welcome. No previous experience required. Cost is £90.00 per guest which includes shooting up to 100 clays and all equipment. (+ 30p per cartridge)

Discover the art of vegetable growing based on the produce of our own kitchen garden or learn how to create stunning herbaceous borders like those in our Yew Avenue. Get to know the grape varieties that flourish here and the techniques used to make fine English wine with master growers from nearby Chet Vineyard. During the summer months you can relax on the lawn while trying a glass of rose or sparkling white. With a passion for creating the highest quality pork products the team at Marsh Pig offer tastings and curing & smoking courses. At their countryside facility just 8 miles from Hales, you can enjoy a day’s course covering: quality meat selection, sourcing, curing, air-drying and smoking. Or enjoy a tasting of their delicious truffle salami, chilli beef jerky and hot chorizo in the comfort of Hales Hall with a talk from the producers themselves. And why not pair it with a glass of local wine? From £175 for a full day course, including an informal lunch. (Private courses and tastings available).

With our luxury accommodation sleeping 25 guests, our glamping packages are for one night only and enable you to have extra guests to stay over on the night of your wedding day or special party. We create a bespoke campsite of beautiful bell tents decked out with vintage furniture and fairy lights. From £2,320 for five bell tents (sleeping 10 – 20 guests), including luxury toilet facilities.

Just a 25-minute drive from Hales this stretch of East Suffolk coastline has been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. A must for foodies and a wildlife lover’s paradise, the area is also popular with artists, musicians and writers. The seaside town of Southwold and pretty neighbouring village of Walberswick make a wonderful afternoon trip. A little further along the coast is the world-renowned music venue Snape Maltings and the tourist favourite of Aldeburgh.
